21 DAYS TO HEALING – Day 8: The Healing Power of Communion
Day Eight: The Healing Power of Communion
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 11:26 “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”
Devotional Thought:
Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is more than just a symbolic act—it is a powerful, faith-filled declaration of Christ’s atoning work. When Jesus instituted communion, He took the bread and the cup and declared, “This is My body which is broken for you… This cup is the new covenant in My blood” (1 Corinthians 11:24-25). His broken body and shed blood secured both our salvation and our healing.
Isaiah 53:5 tells us that “by His stripes, we are healed.” Every wound Jesus bore on His body was for our wholeness. When we partake of the bread in communion, we are acknowledging His sacrifice and receiving His healing. Likewise, the cup represents the blood of Jesus, which cleanses us from sin and establishes our covenant with God.
Galatians 3:13-14 explains the deeper significance of Jesus’ death:
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”
Jesus said, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36 NKJV). The phrase “free indeed” means double free—not only are we freed by the sinless blood of Jesus, but we are also freed by the way He died. The fruit of the vine, the blood of the grape, represents the shedding of His blood, which washes away our sins. But He also freed us bodily through His suffering and the manner of His death.
According to Deuteronomy 21:23, “Cursed is he who hangs on a tree.” Jesus took our curse upon Himself by being beaten, whipped, and crucified, so that in Galatians 3:14, He could remove the curse from us and replace it with the blessing of Abraham. His body, represented by the bread in communion, frees us from the curse here on earth and releases the blessing of Abraham into our lives. When we partake of communion in faith, we are declaring that Jesus has set us free—spiritually, physically, and in every area of our lives.
Testimony:
A man diagnosed with a serious heart condition had exhausted all medical options. Doctors told him he would need surgery, but he and his wife felt led to stand in faith for healing. One evening, they read the scriptures about communion and decided to take the Lord’s Supper daily.
Each night, they would take the bread, thanking Jesus for His broken body, and drink the cup, declaring the power of His blood over the man’s health. As they did this, they felt their faith grow stronger. They began to speak Galatians 3:13-14 over themselves, declaring, “Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law, and I receive the blessing of Abraham in my body.” They saw communion not just as a religious practice but as a prophetic act of faith, aligning themselves with Jesus’ finished work.
Weeks later, he returned to the doctor for pre-surgical tests. To their amazement, his condition had drastically improved, to the point where surgery was no longer necessary. The doctors were stunned, but the man and his wife knew that it was the power of Christ’s sacrifice working in his body.
Today, they encourage others to take communion with faith, not just as a ritual, but as a declaration of healing and wholeness through Jesus Christ.
Prayer:
Father God, I thank You for the precious sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I recognize that His body was broken so that I could be healed, and His blood was shed so that I could be forgiven and made whole. I come before You today with a heart full of gratitude, receiving all that Jesus accomplished for me on the cross.
Holy Spirit, deepen my understanding of the power of communion. Help me to take it in faith, knowing that as I do, I am aligning myself with Christ’s finished work. I declare that by His stripes, I am healed. I release every sickness, every pain, and every burden into Your hands, Lord.
I thank You, Jesus, that You have made me free indeed—doubly free! Your sinless blood has washed away my sins, and Your broken body has removed the curse from my life. You took the punishment I deserved, so I could receive the blessing of Abraham. I stand on Galatians 3:13-14, declaring that I am redeemed from every curse and positioned to receive Your blessings.
As I take communion, let it be a moment of encounter with You, Lord. May my body be strengthened, my mind be renewed, and my spirit be refreshed. I believe in the supernatural power of the body and blood of Jesus, and I walk in divine health and wholeness. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Action Step:
Take communion today with a renewed perspective. Before you partake, read Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, and Galatians 3:13-14. As you take the bread, thank Jesus for His broken body that brings healing. As you drink the cup, declare the power of His blood over your life. Expect His healing power to manifest in you.
